About Horizon Recovery - Buckeye Residential
Horizon Recovery Buckeye is a residential treatment home for girls ages 11 to 17 in Buckeye, Arizona. It treats depression, anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, and substance use, including when more than one is happening at once. The team also treats compulsive use of social media, phones, video games, and artificial intelligence (AI) companion apps. Most stays last 30 to 90 days. Horizon's other residential homes are Deer Valley in Peoria, which is co-ed, and Arrowhead in Glendale, for boys.
Get Care From a Licensed Clinical Team
A licensed clinician leads every therapy group, and each house therapist works with no more than five clients. Dr. Mona Amini, MD, MBA, a board-certified psychiatrist, is the medical director, and Dr. Amy Serin is the director of neuropsychology. A family nurse practitioner gives each teen a full physical exam within 48 hours of arriving. Overnight, a staff member stays awake and checks on each teen in person every 15 minutes.
Try a Range of Therapies
Therapy includes individual counseling, group therapy, family therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). A board-certified music therapist leads group twice a week, a Pet Partners handler brings in therapy dogs, and a coach runs daily movement, yoga, and mindfulness. Horizon's Neuro Program adds a quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) brain map and neurofeedback.
Keep School and Family Involved
Teens stay enrolled in school through Alta Independent, Horizon's accredited school partner. Families have a weekly family session, even if the teen chooses not to join, and a parent group meets twice a month. Before discharge, staff arrange the next step at one of Horizon's outpatient clinics, with partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), or outpatient therapy.
