About Crossroads Greater Portland Counseling Center
Since 1974, Crossroads has helped women build long-term recovery through evidence-based, gender-specific addiction and behavioral health treatment. This facility located in Scarborough, Maine gives women structured support for substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions while allowing them to continue work, school, and family responsibilities. Clients begin care with a comprehensive assessment from a Master’s-level licensed clinician who evaluates substance use, mental health concerns, family dynamics, and recovery goals to create a personalized treatment plan.
Flexible, Evidence-Based Care
Crossroads combines group therapy, individual counseling, relapse prevention, recovery education, family support, and 12-Step participation in a flexible outpatient setting. Clinicians use evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to help clients manage triggers, navigate difficult emotions, and develop healthier responses during recovery.
Programs include Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for substance use and eating disorders, offering 6 hours of structured treatment 5 days a week, with the eating disorder track supported by a dietitian, nurse, and Medical Director. Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for substance use and eating disorders provide 3 hours of treatment 5 days a week, alongside individual counseling for women addressing both mental health and substance use concerns.
Group Therapy Tailored to Women
The program’s gender-specific approach provides group sessions where women can openly discuss addiction, trauma, relationships, family responsibilities, and mental health in a more supportive environment. Crossroads also provides support services that help rebuild trust, improve communication, and strengthen support systems at home.

Supportive Medication for Recovery
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach that pairs FDA-approved medications with counseling to treat addiction. The medications are used to reduce cravings, ease withdrawal symptoms, or block the effects of substances. More about MAT
Methadone
Naltrexone
Buprenorphine
Note: Treatment centers offer different forms of MAT—such as oral tablets, dissolvable films, or monthly injections—and their policies can vary based on state regulations, provider preferences, and insurance coverage. Because of these differences, it's best to contact the center directly to learn what options are available and what might be right for your situation.
