Located in Hempstead, Houston Mental Health is a residential mental health facility for adults aged 18 and older. The center also offers a virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP) and an in-person outpatient program, treating a broad range of mental health conditions, including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, trauma-related disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, and other concerns such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), stress, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Healing Mind, Body, and Spirit
Specific conditions they treat include, but are not limited to, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating, and narcissism. The center incorporates evidence-based, holistic, and experiential approaches into individual, group, and family therapy, drawing on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), art therapy, music therapy, animal-assisted therapy, yoga, and meditation.
Life at Houston Mental Health
Residents begin each day with a structured morning routine that includes a mindfulness session, followed by individual and group therapy sessions, clinical appointments, and therapeutic activities. Evenings include rest, personal reflection, and peer connection. The program provides chef-prepared meals with accommodations for dietary restrictions, preferences, and eating disorders. Residents stay in private rooms and may bring their pets to the center. Additional amenities include an indoor theater.
