BHG provides outpatient treatment for adults managing opioid use disorder, including prescription opioids, heroin and fentanyl. Care begins with a full assessment of each patient's substance use history, health needs and recovery goals, then combines medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) with counseling, recovery support and care coordination. Treatment plans are tailored to each patient's needs, since no two patients start treatment from the same place.

Find Both Structure and Flexibility

BHG Knoxville Bernard Treatment Center provides a structured opioid treatment program (OTP) for adults who benefit from closer monitoring as well as an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for those who need more support than standard outpatient treatment. While the facility remains open until 1:30 Monday–Friday, daily medication dispensing runs from 5:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday–Friday and 5:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturdays. For those needing less intensive supervision, a flexible, appointment-based model is also available, pairing outpatient care with counseling.

Work with an Experienced Care Team

Physicians, nurses, counselors and peer recovery specialists welcome every patient into their care, providing treatment with dignity and respect at every step of the recovery process. This team guides patients toward healthier routines, repaired relationships and stronger, more stable lives, for themselves, their families and the communities who depend on them each and every day.

Build a Strong Foundation for Recovery

Across BHG's network, patients report meaningful improvements during treatment:

  • 92% experience improved quality of life and mental health
  • 83% report decreased substance use
  • 60% secure employment within their first year of care.

Recovery support continues well after initial treatment through case management, community resources, family involvement and ongoing encouragement as clients celebrate milestones.

Receive Tailored Medication Treatment
Treatment begins with the right plan. Depending on a patient's needs, care may include FDA-approved medications such as methadone or buprenorphine (commonly known as Suboxone). These medications help reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms, allowing patients to focus on healing, improving quality of life and moving forward in recovery.
Heal through Counseling
Heal through Counseling
Recovery is about understanding the challenges that led a patient to treatment and building the skills needed to stay on track and prevent setbacks. Through individual and group counseling, patients work closely with experienced counselors to strengthen coping skills, prevent relapse, improve relationships with loved ones and support lasting, long-term recovery.
Fit Treatment into Daily Life
Fit Treatment into Daily Life
BHG's intensive outpatient program (IOP) provides group and individual therapy several times a week, typically 9 or more hours through 3-hour sessions, for at least 12 weeks. Plans are customized to each patient's needs and may include case management and family services, with in-person and telehealth options to fit each patient's schedule.
