Alsana Monterey PHP/IOP

The partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP) at Alsana Monterey treat adults of all genders with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED), diabulimia, and co-occurring mental health conditions. Flexible schedules let clients stay independent while they work, attend school, and spend time with loved ones.

Differences Between Programs

The two programs differ in intensity. PHP requires 8 hours of attendance per day, with 1 individual counseling session, 1 nutrition session, and 1 psychiatry session per week, plus 4 group sessions per day. IOP offers less intense programming, with 4 hours of programming per day, 1 individual counseling session and 1 nutrition session per week, and 2 group sessions per day.

Clients often arrive from residential care, though PHP and IOP also welcome people coming directly from the community. To ensure a smooth transition, the team helps clients secure recovery-minded apartments in Pacific Grove, a 15-minute drive from the treatment center and within walking distance of historic downtown. Private balconies, a fitness center, a spa, and a yoga relaxation suite create a comfortable, supportive environment.

Early Intervention and Relapse Prevention

Alsana designs its outpatient programs for people showing early signs of an eating disorder, because early treatment strengthens results and reduces treatment time, physical and mental risks, and relapse likelihood. Clients navigating recovery alongside life transitions often find a good fit in the structured yet adaptable approach. Clients who are relapsing can join 2-week intensives at PHP and IOP levels of care, available in person and virtually.
