About The Emerald
The Emerald is a private residential treatment center in Kandy, in Sri Lanka's hill country, treating addiction and mental health conditions for adults. The property sits away from Kandy's main tourist areas, on a hillside overlooking the Mahaweli River. The center treats alcohol and drug addiction alongside anxiety, depression, trauma, and burnout, and offers dual diagnosis care for people dealing with more than one condition at once.
Build a Plan Around the Person, Not a Protocol
Each stay starts with a full clinical assessment, and the treatment plan comes out of that, not a set track everyone follows. Clients get at least two one to one sessions a week with a focal therapist, plus ongoing psychiatric care, alongside daily group sessions that mix psycho education, process work, and specialized topics.
Work Through Trauma With Trauma-Informed Therapies
Therapists use EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Internal Family Systems, and cognitive behavioral therapy to work through trauma, anxiety, and depression alongside addiction. The approach is trauma informed throughout, and clients also have access to meditation, yoga, and creative therapies like art and music.
Recover in Sri Lanka's Hill Country
The 15 rooms are single occupancy, each with a private bathroom and balcony overlooking the hills. The property has a pool, gym, spa, and gardens, and clients can join hikes and excursions into the surrounding countryside. A clinical and nursing team, including a consultant psychiatrist, provides care onsite, with a hospital partnership for backup medical support.
