Provider's Policy

Step One Behavioral and Residential works with a wide range of AHCCCS Medicaid plans, commercial insurance providers, and out-of-network PPO plans, including UMR, Mercy Care, Arizona Complete Health, and Banner, to make treatment as accessible as possible.

Step One Behavioral and Residential began as a halfway house and has grown into a behavioral health residential facility (BHFR) serving men with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Their programs treat alcohol, opioid, methamphetamine, and polysubstance use alongside conditions like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, stress, and PTSD. Clients engage in individual and group therapy, relapse prevention, and life skills training designed to support long-term recovery.

Different Paths for Different Needs

Step One Behavioral and Residential offers more than residential treatment, including inpatient, day treatment (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient programs. Day treatment meets 5 days a week, 5–6 hours per day. IOP offers morning and evening tracks 3–4 days a week, 3 hours per day. These are supported by psychiatric evaluation, medication management, case management, and peer support. The center also provides transitional housing and a work therapy program.

Building Skills for Life Beyond Treatment

Men stay in private or shared rooms within a structured environment. Daily life includes recovery groups, behavioral health support, meals, wellness activities, and peer engagement. Life skills training covers time management, financial management, personal responsibility, household expectations, healthy communication, conflict resolution, and transportation and appointment management. The work therapy program helps men through resume development, interview preparation, job search assistance, and workplace soft skills such as punctuality, teamwork, and communication.
