Located just north of Dawson Creek in British Columbia's Peace River country, North Wind Wellness Centre offers a 45-day, culturally based residential treatment program for co-ed adults ages 19 and up. They treat addiction to alcohol, drugs and prescription medication, along with sex addiction, compulsive gambling, process addictions such as internet and shopping, and cross-addictions.

Healing Within the Sacred Circle

Treatment combines 8 segments: an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) recovery program covering the first 5 steps, bio-psycho-social work, cultural and spiritual teachings, life skills, recreation, mental health, trauma and yoga. Certified addictions counsellors and cultural Elders support healing from childhood trauma, grief, loss, violence and sexual abuse, with a psychologist or psychiatrist available when needed.

150 Acres of Peace River Wilderness

The facility includes a main common building, a session and craft room, a sweat lodge, exercise equipment, computers and a counsellors' office. Participants can walk the 150 acres of wilderness and collect medicines, weather permitting. Each day begins and ends with smudge and a prayer circle, and Sweat Lodge, Blanket and Pipe ceremonies are part of the program.
