About Mission Teens Gaastra
Founded in 1969 as part of the Mission Teens network, Mission Teens Gaastra welcomes men and women ages 18 and older seeking freedom from drug addiction, alcohol addiction, and other life-controlling problems. Offered at no cost to residents, the non-denominational Christian residential program emphasizes Biblical discipleship, accountability, and daily structure. Residents follow house rules, complete chores, study Scripture, and gradually earn additional responsibilities and privileges as they progress through 4 phases.
Building Faith Through Daily Structure
Mission Teens Gaastra centers recovery on Christian discipleship and practical daily routines. Residents spend about 5½ hours each day studying the Bible, attend chapel, sing praise and worship songs, pray together, complete household responsibilities, and learn from junior staff and experienced residents who previously completed the program. During the second and third phases, residents earn scheduled phone calls and visits with immediate family, pastors, or legal counsel as they take on additional responsibilities and prepare for leadership.
Growing into Leadership and Service
The final phase develops leadership and counseling skills through supervised peer mentoring and daily counseling assignments. Graduates may continue into an optional 10–12-month missionary staff training program, where they teach and mentor future residents. Churches and individual donors fund the program, allowing Mission Teens Gaastra to offer residential care at no cost while helping residents strengthen their relationship with Christ, grow in responsibility, and prepare to serve others after graduation.
