About Key Works
Founded in 1968, Key Works provides long-term residential treatment for adults age 21 and older struggling with substance use disorders (SUD) and co-occurring mental health concerns. Most clients stay approximately 4–5 months, receiving structured support that combines addiction treatment with employment training and recovery planning. The nonprofit operates under a unique mission of recycling and recovery, using its recycling and workforce programs to help support treatment services while creating opportunities for clients to build practical skills.
Treatment with Real-World Skill Building
Key Works treatment includes individual counseling, group therapy, relapse prevention education, peer support, and support for individuals receiving medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). Clients follow an organized schedule while learning practical job and life skills that support long-term recovery. Depending on their interests, they may receive training in forklift operation, warehouse logistics, commercial driving preparation, welding, facilities maintenance, food service, clerical work, and workplace responsibilities.
Living, Learning, and Preparing
Clients live in a residential setting where they typically share a bedroom with one or two roommates, creating opportunities to practice responsibility and community living. As clients progress through the program, they work toward recovery milestones and participate in a graduation ceremony that recognizes their accomplishments. Support continues beyond graduation through assistance with employment, housing, and community reintegration. Graduates also have access to a large alumni network that provides mentorship and recovery support long after treatment ends.
