About Evolve Teen Treatment Center - Woodland Hills
Located in Woodland Hills, California, this specialized residential program serves autistic teens ages 12 to 17 facing mental health or substance use challenges. Part of Evolve, the center treats autism as an integral part of who each teen is, never something to be "fixed." Rather than trying to change them, the program delivers evidence-based care fully adapted to each teen's sensory, communication, and processing needs, guided by neurodiversity experts so teens can engage in treatment without the pressure to mask. The home accommodates a maximum of 6 teens at a time, with an average stay of 45 to 60 days.
Access a Full Continuum of Care
Evolve offers a full continuum of care, including residential treatment across California, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and virtual services. Their residential programs combine individual, group, and family therapy with psychiatry, experiential therapies like art, surf, and equine, and daily academic support.
Heal Through Evidence-Based, Individualized Care
The treatment model is rooted in evidence-based approaches, emphasizing dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The program provides adherent DBT skills training for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness, while integrating modalities like motivational interviewing and SMART Recovery. Every teen receives a customized, multidisciplinary treatment plan.
Adapt Clinical Therapy to Each Neurotype
Therapies like DBT only work when they are accessible, so the neuroaffirming track tailors clinical care to each teen's unique neurotype. Clinical adaptations include:
- Clear, direct language and visual supports to break down complex concepts
- Extra processing time and individual instruction when groups feel overwhelming
- Support for stimming and sensory regulation as valid forms of participation
- Weekly sensory regulation groups led by an occupational therapist
Recover in Safe, Sensory-Informed Spaces
With a 3:1 client-to-staff ratio, Evolve provides 24/7 safety and individualized care. Its neuroaffirming homes balance predictability with flexibility to prevent overwhelm and support regulation. Sensory adaptations include:
- Environment: dimmable lighting, reduced echo, noise-canceling headphones, and the removal of strong scents
- Sensory regulation room: a dedicated space with a projector, bubble tube, fidgets, and weighted blankets for soothing or stimulation
- Diet and academics: chef-prepared safe foods and specialized school spaces with sensory-friendly seating
