When life becomes unmanageable and the symptoms of mental illness become debilitating, Alter Behavioral Health for Women is here to help women regain control and learn the skills to have healthier, happier days ahead. From the comfort of a small, private home in Dana Point serving only 6 women at a time, Alter delivers round-the-clock mental health treatment for a wide range of mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders.

Benefit from a Client-Centered Approach

Every woman’s path is distinct, so Alter attentively listens to each client’s story and works together to craft a personalized treatment strategy. They provide two one-on-one therapy sessions per week, four therapeutic groups per day, and medication management. Clients can expect holistic activities like art therapy, sound baths, and gym time in addition to evidence-based clinical therapy. They also take frequent outings that clients choose together, including whale watching, bowling, hiking, going to the farmer’s market, and more.

Alter’s Dana Point facility provides sunlit mornings, afternoons walking by Doheny State Beach, and evenings spent in a peaceful backyard. Women stay in private or shared bedrooms in a home that feels both comfortable and elegant, and connect with each other in cozy sitting areas and by a warm fireplace. A chef prepares meals made with fresh ingredients, and a personal trainer provides support in the on-site fitness area.

Prior to discharge, Alter helps clients navigate options, assess their needs, and connect with trusted partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs that align with their goals. They match clients with programs that go beyond talk therapy, recommending programs that offer real-life skills, nature-based healing, and transitional housing as needed.
