About Spectrum Health Systems - Main St.

With decades of experience, Spectrum Health Systems provides education as the foundation of treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders while helping clients achieve personal goals. They use motivational interviewing (MI) and motivational enhancement therapy (MET) to encourage participation while providing overdose prevention education.

Clinical Support for Substance Use Recovery

They provide adults with medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using methadone, naltrexone, and buprenorphine (suboxone), alongside individual and group counseling. They also offer a 16-week impaired driving education program that requires sixteen 2-hour group sessions and 2 AA meetings, as well as a second offender aftercare program for clients with multiple DUI convictions that includes weekly group sessions for 26 weeks and monthly counseling.

Convenient Access to Medication Services

Spectrum Health Systems offers same-day admission and designated walk-in access for medication services, allowing eligible clients to complete intake requirements, physical exams, toxicology screening, and, when appropriate, receive medication on the same day. They operate Monday through Saturday with varying hours, opening at 5:30 a.m. each day.

Methadone is a full opioid agonist, meaning it activates opioid receptors in the brain to produce effects like pain relief and euphoria. It is longer acting than many other opioids, making it useful in medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder.

How It Works

It reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings by occupying opioid receptors without causing intense highs. Because it is a full agonist, it must be used carefully to avoid overdose, but it is highly effective when taken as prescribed within a structured program.

About this Medication

Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist used to treat opioid use disorder. It activates opioid receptors to reduce cravings and withdrawal but has a ceiling effect, meaning it produces less euphoria and respiratory depression than full opioids.

How It Works

Buprenorphine binds tightly to opioid receptors, blocking other opioids from attaching and reducing the risk of misuse. It's often combined with naloxone (as in Suboxone®) to discourage injection misuse and is available in daily or monthly forms.

Summary

Headache, nausea, constipation, sweating, insomnia, irritability, dizziness, and mouth numbness (for sublingual forms). Less common but serious risks include respiratory depression, especially when mixed with other sedatives.
