About Pine Rest Retreat Clinic
Connecting outpatient addiction treatment with more intensive services on the same Grand Rapids campus, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services’ Retreat Clinic provides counseling, addiction medicine, and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for substance use disorders (SUD). Physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, and addiction-certified counselors address opioid, alcohol, cocaine, amphetamine, nicotine, and sedative-hypnotic dependence through medical and psychosocial evaluations, individual and group therapy, and medication management. Patients can also access day treatment (PHP) and residential medical detox through co-located programs.
Outpatient Detox and Day Treatment (PHP)
For outpatient opioid detox, clinicians use buprenorphine and naltrexone in a medically supervised program that requires participation in outpatient therapy. Addiction physicians also supervise eligible benzodiazepine tapers, including those started during residential detox. The PHP serves adults 18 and older who return home each evening. Patients attend at least 6 hours daily, typically for 5 days or up to 10 when clinically recommended, with nursing assessments, medication visits, group therapy, DBT skills education, and aftercare planning.
Residential Medical Detox and Recovery
The residential detox unit shares a building with Retreat Clinic. Nurses provide 24-hour monitoring, while physicians conduct daily visits and manage withdrawal symptoms and cravings through medication. Patients also attend group therapy and receive recovery coaching, relapse prevention training, and discharge planning. Retreat Clinic offers a Family Recovery Group and Recovery Alumni Program and holds Blue Cross Blue Shield's Blue Distinction Center designation for Substance Use Treatment and Recovery. Eligible PHP and detox patients may receive financial assistance.
