About Greater Essex Counseling Services - Newark
Founded in 2009, Greater Essex Counseling Services - Newark provides outpatient addiction and mental health treatment for adults seeking support for substance use, co-occurring mental health conditions, grief, and the effects of domestic violence. The center offers outpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) care, psychiatric evaluations, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), monitored drug screens, and fentanyl addiction treatment. Clients receive personalized care that builds healthy routines and supports recovery through bilingual services.
Therapy That Meets Individual Needs
Greater Essex Counseling Services combines individual, group, family, and couples counseling to help clients work through addiction, mental health concerns, and relationship challenges. Clients participate in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), mindfulness, meditation, and yoga while also receiving medication monitoring and coordinated psychiatric care. The center provides FDA-approved medications for MAT, including buprenorphine and naltrexone (Vivitrol). Its domestic violence counseling program offers trauma-informed support, safety planning, family therapy, and referrals to community resources for individuals and families, including children when appropriate.
Helping Clients Move Forward
Alongside counseling, clients receive practical support that helps them navigate everyday challenges during and after treatment. Through case management, they connect with housing, employment, financial resources, and other community services while building relapse prevention and emotional regulation skills. Clients can also complete supervised educational hours, participate in court-approved anger management, and access monitored drug screening for legal, employment, and professional requirements. Alumni events help clients stay connected, while referrals to medical, dental, and community services extend support beyond treatment.

Note: Treatment centers offer different forms of MAT—such as oral tablets, dissolvable films, or monthly injections—and their policies can vary based on state regulations, provider preferences, and insurance coverage. Because of these differences, it's best to contact the center directly to learn what options are available and what might be right for your situation.
