About First Step Counseling - Kingsport
Medication treatment and counseling work together at First Step Counseling’s Kingsport clinic for opioid dependence. Physicians use Suboxone, Sublocade, buprenorphine, and other medications to address withdrawal symptoms and cravings, including dependence involving heroin, OxyContin, Percocet, and Vicodin. Vivitrol is also available for alcohol dependence and to help prevent relapse to opioid dependence after detoxification.
Counseling and Recovery Planning
A board-certified physician and therapist take part in the initial visit, and the team develops a treatment plan based on each patient’s needs. Therapists provide 1-on-1 counseling focused on identifying triggers and ways to avoid them, while a weekly group addresses ongoing substance use concerns. The center also includes family involvement in treatment and gives patients local listings for Celebrate Recovery and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings.
Supportive Medication for Recovery
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach that pairs FDA-approved medications with counseling to treat addiction. The medications are used to reduce cravings, ease withdrawal symptoms, or block the effects of substances. More about MAT
Methadone
Naltrexone
Buprenorphine
Note: Treatment centers offer different forms of MAT—such as oral tablets, dissolvable films, or monthly injections—and their policies can vary based on state regulations, provider preferences, and insurance coverage. Because of these differences, it's best to contact the center directly to learn what options are available and what might be right for your situation.
