Set on the west side of town near the beltline, UnityPoint Health’s Meriter NewStart offers intensive outpatient (IOP) services and ongoing care using evidence-based and holistic treatment methods, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), group therapy, 12-Step facilitation, peer support, and psychoeducation sessions. With an emphasis on harm reduction, they aim to meet clients where they are to help clients meet their goals for long-term recovery and mental well-being.

Structured Morning or Evening Skill-Building

NewStart’s IOP tends to be the first step in their clients’ recovery process. The program includes 4 3-hour sessions per week, on Mondays through Thursdays, either in the morning or evening. 2 skilled and licensed providers lead each session and walk clients through education, skill-building, and process groups. They aim to help clients improve their health, sense of purpose, and functioning at home and in the community.

Walk-Ins Welcome

NewStart offers 2 weekly walk-in options for individuals to get the care they need on Monday afternoons from 12:30 to 3 p.m. and Tuesday mornings from 8 to 11 a.m. Their walk-in clinic provides direct access to therapists, physicians and nurses to encourage immediate engagement in recovery pathways as well as direct access to medication-assisted treatment.
