About The Hader Clinic Geelong
Set in St. Albans Park, Geelong, the purpose-built private hospital pairs clinical treatment with a home-like residential setting. Founded in 1996 by Richard Smith after his own recovery, The Hader Clinic grew from a small, peer-led initiative into a private addiction and mental health treatment provider. The center treats adults with alcohol and other substance use disorders, including people with trauma and co-occurring mental health conditions. Programs also serve veterans and first responders, young adults, seniors, court-ordered clients, and executives.
Move From Detox Into Specialized Treatment
Clients can start with 7 to 28 days of medically supervised detox before moving into 30-, 60-, or 90-day residential rehab. The center’s multidisciplinary team provides individual and group therapy, peer support, and relapse prevention using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), alongside equine therapy, yoga, art, and music. Residential stay balances treatment, peer connection, and rest, with 24/7 clinical and recovery support. Dedicated programs adapt treatment for veterans and first responders, court-ordered clients, and executives, reflecting their clinical, legal, and professional needs.
Continue Treatment Beyond Residential Rehab
After residential treatment, clients can move into transitional housing in Ocean Grove, with gender-separated options and support for returning to work, study, and independent living. Clients can also continue therapy while living at home through the intensive outpatient program (IOP) or access 12 weeks of digital aftercare through Hader@Home. Family programs provide counselling, education, and group support focused on communication, boundaries, codependency, and relapse prevention.
