About Affect Therapeutics

Fully virtual outpatient care for substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health is delivered through Affect Therapeutics’ secure smartphone app across multiple U.S. states. Patients can download the app through the Apple App Store or Google Play to access counseling, doctor visits, peer support, messaging, progress tracking, and digital rewards. Affect treats alcohol and drug use, including opioid and stimulant use, alongside anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, trauma and PTSD, and postpartum depression.

Therapy, Medication, and Digital Tools

Counselors provide 1-on-1 and group care, while medical providers evaluate symptoms, prescribe medications, and monitor their effects. Affect uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety, trauma-informed therapy for PTSD, and exposure and response prevention (ERP) for OCD. Addiction care may include medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and contingency management, which provides rewards for completing appointments, app activities, and other recovery goals.

Different Levels of Outpatient Care

Program intensity varies by state and clinical need. Standard outpatient care may include weekly counselor meetings, 2 weekly groups, and periodic medical appointments. The intensive outpatient program (IOP) includes 1 weekly individual session and 3 group sessions per week, each lasting 3 hours. Affect also provides virtual day treatment (PHP) with up to 20 hours of weekly group counseling, which is specifically listed as available in Ohio.

About this Medication

Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist used to treat opioid use disorder. It activates opioid receptors to reduce cravings and withdrawal but has a ceiling effect, meaning it produces less euphoria and respiratory depression than full opioids.

How It Works

Buprenorphine binds tightly to opioid receptors, blocking other opioids from attaching and reducing the risk of misuse. It's often combined with naloxone (as in Suboxone®) to discourage injection misuse and is available in daily or monthly forms.
