Expanding access to mental healthcare, Access Institute provides therapy, psychiatry, psychological assessments, and medication management for children, teens, adults, couples, families, and older adults. Founded in 2002, the San Francisco nonprofit serves as a mental health safety net through its Hayes Valley clinic and programs across the community. They offer low- and no-cost services, sliding-scale fees, and long-term care for people with the greatest need and least access.

Meeting People Where They Are

Access Institute tailors treatment to each person's needs through individual, couples, family, and play therapy, psychological testing, and medication management when appropriate.Therapists also provide care in 7 San Francisco public elementary schools and at the Bayview Hunters Point Adult Day Health Center, making it easier for children, families, and older adults to receive support where they already spend their time. The team helps people manage anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, and other mental health concerns through counseling, crisis support, and individualized treatment. They welcome people from diverse backgrounds, including the LGBTQ+ community, and build lasting therapeutic relationships.

Strengthening Care Through Clinical Training

Access Institute combines community care with an APA-accredited doctoral internship. Licensed clinicians supervise doctoral interns, postgraduate clinicians, and psychiatric nurse practitioners as they deliver care under close supervision. The team works with families, schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations to coordinate support and connect clients with additional resources when needed. This model allows Access Institute to reach more people while providing care under the guidance of experienced licensed clinicians.
