Many people worry that the good times will come to a screeching halt without alcohol. In reality, the mental clarity that often comes with sobriety can make life feel more grounded and fulfilling. And choosing not to drink isn’t as unusual as you might think.

Despite Hollywood’s reputation for lavish parties and social soirées, a growing number of A-list stars openly say “no thanks” to alcohol. In a town known for public scandals and nights of revelry, many celebrities embrace sobriety, whether due to health reasons or personal choice, and continue to thrive.

1. Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson, 32, has enjoyed an extraordinary rise to fame. In 2012, she was asked to portray someone struggling with substance use in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete. While promoting the film, she shared on Chelsea Lately, “I’ve never had a drink in my life. I’m sober. I’ve never been interested.”

2. Blake Lively

Blake Lively, 26, known for roles in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Green Lantern, has never felt drawn to drinking. “I don’t drink. I’ve never tried a drug,” she told Allure. “It’s just something that I genuinely don’t have a desire for.”

3. Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez, 44, has dominated music, film, and television for decades. Despite her high-energy career, she avoids alcohol. “I think that ruins your skin,” she told InStyle. “During celebratory toasts, I’ll take a sip—but I don’t drink.”

4. Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci began her acting career in her teens. Despite trying drugs and alcohol, the 34-year old starlet made the conscious decision to embrace a sober life. “I went through a normal kind of late teens, early 20s drinking, but it was a choice I made, because I didn’t think it was very good for my life,” she told BlackBook.

5. Eva Mendes

Eva Mendes entered treatment in 2008 and has remained sober since. She spoke openly with Interview magazine about recovery, saying, “I’m proud of people who have the fearlessness to face their demons and get better. This is life or death.”

6. Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore’s struggles with substance use began early in life, and she entered treatment at just 12 years old. Today, she prioritizes wellness and balance. “I’m not completely sober,” she told Parade. “I’ve tried to find balance, and I hope it’s balanced.”

7. Jada Pinkett Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith, 42, knows the dangers of addiction. The Hawthorne actress recently revealed her addiction was a family disease, admitting her mother struggled with substance use in the past. “I had problems with alcohol, and I really had to get in contact with the pain, whatever that is, and then I had to get some other tools on how to deal with the pain. From that day on, I went cold turkey; I haven’t had a drink in eight years,” she told Contact Music.
