About Northern Illinois Recovery Center - Chicago
Built around the 12-month Atlas Model, developed through a partnership between Northern Illinois Recovery Center and Millennium Counseling Center (MCC), the Chicago Loop center offers three levels of outpatient care for adults with substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns. Instead of treating recovery as separate stages, the center follows a connected approach that considers medical, mental health, family, and social needs together as clients move between levels of care.
Match Treatment to Daily Needs
Treatment begins with an assessment of each client's substance use, mental health, and daily responsibilities. The clinical team then recommends partial hospitalization (PHP) for structured daytime care, intensive outpatient (IOP) for 9 to 15 hours of weekly therapy, or standard outpatient for fewer visits. Individual, group, and family counseling help clients manage cravings and recognize triggers, and intensity adjusts as they progress without starting over.
Build Skills Across Four Seasons
The Atlas curriculum follows four seasons, starting with stability, then managing emotions and developing coping skills. Clients then move on to relationships, personal goals, and relapse prevention. Therapists draw on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care, alongside mindfulness, yoga, and art therapy. PHQ-9 and GAD-7 screenings track progress, and clients who need detox or residential care can start at the Crystal Lake campus.
