About Axis Health System - Durango Integrated Healthcare
Built on Axis Health System's history as a community mental health provider since 1960, Durango Integrated Healthcare is a nonprofit outpatient center that combines substance use and psychiatric treatment with primary medical and dental services. Located on Mercury Village Drive, Colorado, the center serves people of all ages, including those with co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions. Their integrated model brings structured addiction programs, psychiatry, and an on-site pharmacy together, allowing clients to address behavioral and physical health needs in one location.
Move From Assessment Into Structured Treatment
Care begins with an assessment of each client's substance use, mental health, and medical needs. Those needing more frequent addiction treatment may enter the Matrix Model intensive outpatient program (IOP), which combines early recovery groups, relapse prevention, family education, and SMART Recovery tools. Therapists also use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused approaches to address symptoms and build coping skills. Psychiatric providers manage medications alongside counseling, while medication-assisted treatment (MAT) includes Suboxone and Vivitrol.
Continue Care Through Specialized and Community Support
As clients progress through treatment, they can move to less frequent counseling and recovery groups based on their needs. The center also offers a first episode of psychosis program for early psychosis and assertive community treatment (ACT) for people with serious mental health conditions who need coordinated, team-based support. Some services take place in the community rather than at the center. Case managers and peer staff assist with housing, employment, and transportation, while the community transitions program connects people leaving incarceration with treatment and local resources.
Center Overview

Supportive Medication for Recovery
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach that pairs FDA-approved medications with counseling to treat addiction. The medications are used to reduce cravings, ease withdrawal symptoms, or block the effects of substances. More about MAT
Methadone
Naltrexone
Buprenorphine
Note: Treatment centers offer different forms of MAT—such as oral tablets, dissolvable films, or monthly injections—and their policies can vary based on state regulations, provider preferences, and insurance coverage. Because of these differences, it's best to contact the center directly to learn what options are available and what might be right for your situation.
