As part of an academic medical center, Medstar Georgetown University Hospital’s Outpatient Psychiatry Services provides mental health services for children, adolescents, adults, and emerging adults. The program offers separate adolescent and young adult intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), the LAUNCH clinic for emerging adults ages 16–24, physician-delivered transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and first-of-its-kind Mother-Baby IOP in the Washington region. Other services include psychiatric evaluations, medication management, individual, family, and group therapy, and a psychiatric partial hospitalization program (PHP).

Evidence-Based Treatment Options

The clinical team treats depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), ADHD, psychosis, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and other mental health conditions. Treatment includes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), child-parent psychotherapy (CPP), mindfulness, family therapy, and parent coaching. Group programs focus on emotion regulation, coping skills, executive functioning, and interpersonal skills.

Programs for Every Stage of Growth

Children and adolescents receive care through the Center for Children and Families, which includes psychiatric care, therapy, and parent support, along with programs such as the Resilience Builder Program and Regulating Together. The adolescent IOP uses a 12-week DBT-based curriculum for teens who need more support than weekly outpatient care. Adults can access the mood and anxiety disorders consultation clinic, while the women's mental health program provides specialized psychiatric care during pregnancy and postpartum.
