About Amend Mental Health Treatment
Amend Treatment is redefining what residential mental health treatment looks like using their deep expertise, scientific rigor, and singular focus on helping clients recover and sustain their mental and emotional well-being. Hosting just 6 clients at a time per location, their staff is committed and able to individually address the deeper, more complex issues impacting clients’ lives. Their two Malibu locations are intentionally designed to provide a sense of peace and privacy, allowing clients to focus completely on healing.
Amend Treatment’s approach is to identify and treat the often unseen and intangible, underlying causes of mental and behavioral health difficulties. For clients who have substance use issues, this approach can help heal the mental health disorder that led them to use. Each client has 3 dedicated clinicians on their care team, chosen from an overall staff with more than 100 years of combined clinical experience. Clients receive 5 individual therapy sessions per week with a licensed therapist; this intensive work can lead to lifelong change in a sliver of time. An on-site psychiatrist works directly with clients weekly.
No one therapeutic approach works for everyone, so Amend Treatment uses an eclectic, holistic approach that blends evidence-based and alternative therapy modalities with each person’s individual strengths, needs, and interests to address concerns in the areas of emotional, physical, family, social, and spiritual health, as well as professional and educational wellness. From relaxation techniques like massage, meditation, and sound therapy to equine therapy, acupuncture, and music therapy, each day of residential care at Amend Treatment provides both familiar and new avenues to sustainable recovery. Additional modalities include ketamine-assisted therapy, deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (Deep TMS), and somatic experiencing therapy.
Aftercare is so critical to Amend Treatment that they provide each client with an aftercare coordinator who works directly with the client’s clinical team. They provide a curated list of aftercare options best suited to the client’s needs.
Centered on the tranquil Malibu coastline, Amend Treatment’s two houses feel like home, but are free of the daily distractions and duties of home so clients can concentrate fully on themselves. These beautiful, secluded spaces give clients options for where to have therapy sessions, such as by the peaceful water lily pond or in the comfort of their own rooms. Each home boasts well-appointed bedrooms with easy indoor/outdoor access, pools and lounging areas, fountains, and lush surroundings. Indoors, clients share access to a family room, living room, dining areas, and kitchen, all bathed in natural light. Amend Treatment’s in-house chef prepares nutritious, wholesome meals each day. Personal trainers are also available to meet the wellness needs of each client.

Unlike other residential mental health treatment programs that heavily rely on cognitive therapies, Amend Treatment integrates somatic experiencing and experiential therapies to help those who may find it difficult to tune into their own body and mind. Amend Treatment has curated highly qualified—often Master’s level—practitioners who facilitate beneficial therapeutics like art therapy, immersive sound bath & sound healing, music therapy, dance movement therapy, and twice weekly personal training. Clients improve their self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience, and overall well-being.
At Amend Treatment, clients receive help coping with the aftermath of a traumatic event in a healthier, and more sustainable way, while addressing symptoms of acute stress, dissociation, social disinhibition, and more. The team offers a variety of therapeutic options, as well as recreational modalities to help inpatient clients develop the tools needed to cope with trauma symptoms. With their low staff-to-patient ratio and facilities designed to evoke safety and comfort, clients are more easily able to let their guard down to process trauma.
Amend Treatment serves adults of all ages and genders who are struggling with depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and other mental health challenges. They focus on holistic mental health recovery, whether clients need help with one primary condition or dual diagnoses. Clients looking for mental wellness support as opposed to a standard rehab center will appreciate that Amend addresses substance use as a co-occurring condition or coping tool for a primary mental health condition. Assessment, care, and mental health treatment are provided by an experienced multidisciplinary team of health professionals including an expert licensed psychiatrist, psychologist, therapist, nurse, nutritionist, fitness coach, acupuncturist, and support staff. These seasoned professionals work with each client to understand symptoms, assess needs, and develop ways to better navigate mental health challenges.
Amend Treatment uses in-depth psychological testing and personality assessments to identify psychopathology and personality traits. These tests help correctly distinguish between similar mental health disorders, as well as identify a client’s strengths and weaknesses, enabling the team to select the most suitable treatment options. Clients are presented with their findings and given insight about themselves. In 30-45 days, clients can make strides that might otherwise take months.
