About Wake Monarch Academy
Wake Monarch Academy, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, is a recovery high school dedicated to supporting adolescents aged 13 to 21 who are overcoming substance use disorders. The academy offers a college-preparatory education for students in grades 9 through 12, integrating rigorous academics with recovery support services. This approach ensures that students can pursue their academic, personal, and professional goals within a safe and supportive environment.
Wake Monarch Academy aims to create a recovery-focused environment where students can excel academically while staying committed to their sobriety. The school is built on values of community, accountability, acceptance, education, and prioritizing recovery. They believe recovery thrives in a supportive community, fostering peer connections that promote empathy, honesty, and shared responsibility.
Founded by Leah Wright, a retired educator motivated by her personal experience with her son's substance use challenges, Wake Monarch Academy opened its doors in August 2021 as the first recovery high school in the Triangle area. The school operates as a non-profit organization and relies on tuition, fundraising events, and donations to cover operating expenses. They also offer volunteer opportunities and resources for families affected by adolescent substance use disorders.
