About The Birchwood
Birchwood House is an extended care addiction recovery facility that provides a cozy home where clients can focus on building strong roots for recovery. Birchwood has developed a program that has some foundations in the Minnesota Model, but it does not rely heavily on the 12-Step approach. Instead, Birchwood has integrated therapeutic counseling modalities such as motivational interviewing, existential therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and a humanistic approach.
The program uses a 3-phased approach as well as a structured program with a full therapeutic day, to ensure long-term recovery. Phase 1 includes daily group therapy as well as individual counseling twice a week. Psychologists will be available for weekly clinics and seminars. Phase 2 allows for more freedom to volunteer off site or find employment, which helps clients reintegrate back into daily life. Phase 3 is a sober living option that includes therapy and evening group sessions.
The Birchwood Home is located in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Clients will have the opportunity to engage in Rehab Tourism which includes adventure activities such as hiking, bungee jumping, exploring Elephant National Park, surfing at Jeffreys Bay, safaris, and much more. Back at the house, clients will enjoy a cozy 2-story home with up-scale furnishing, a deck, and an outdoor pool perfect for relaxing. The Birchwood Treatment Center offers a unique approach to addiction care in a beautiful environment.
