About Josephine Recovery House
Named in honor of Josephine Norkaitis, who believed in helping people rebuild their lives, Josephine Recovery House provides structured sober living for men recovering from substance use disorders (SUD) in Wisconsin. The house follows a 12-Step recovery model built around accountability, peer support, and personal responsibility. Residents attend recovery meetings, work toward employment, and share responsibility for maintaining a home where sobriety and participation in recovery guide everyday expectations.
Three Phases of Recovery
Residents progress through 3 phases: stabilization, responsibility, and leadership and independence. Phase 1 requires at least 4 recovery meetings weekly, active sponsor seeking, and employment efforts. Meeting requirements decrease to 3 in Phase 2 and 1 in Phase 3, when residents become eligible for weekend passes. The house also requires weekly meetings, random drug and alcohol testing, and curfews. Advancement depends on sobriety, meeting participation, employment progress, and compliance with house rules.
Employment and Shared Living
Beyond recovery meetings, residents pursue employment, contribute to household responsibilities, and maintain relationships with their sponsors. The house provides computers for job searching, high-speed internet, shared kitchen and living areas, and laundry facilities. Residents can access local recovery meetings, while treatment centers, drug courts, probation and parole, halfway houses, and individuals themselves can make referrals. These resources complement the house's daily structure as residents work toward greater independence.
