About Enders Island
Perched on an 11-acre island off the Connecticut coast, this post-treatment recovery residence combines sea views, walking trails, and a quiet retreat setting for young men building a life in recovery. The residence serves a small group of men, primarily ages 18 to 30, who need more time after treatment to build sober routines and life skills. Residents follow a 12-Step approach and live within the St. Edmund’s Retreat Catholic retreat community.
Structured Daily Recovery
Residents take part in open and closed 12-Step meetings, peer fellowship, service work, life-skills classes, relapse prevention, mentoring, fitness, and outdoor activities. They can also work with independent counselors trained in addiction, trauma, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and other approaches. The center also has 2 therapy dogs. Staff provides 24/7 support, while residents manage daily responsibilities and recovery activities.
Community, Education, and Ongoing Support
Enders Island also supports academic placement, vocational training, internships, and recovery coaching. Residents can join art and writing classes, outings, cookouts, bonfires, and community activities, and receive spiritual direction if desired. The residence welcomes people of any faith or no faith, and former residents may return as sponsors or mentors.
