About Shortridge Academy
Shortridge Academy is a private therapeutic boarding school in New England for kids in grades 9 through 12, offering rigorous yet supportive college prep coursework on a 350-acre campus with an average of 50 students enrolled year-round. They are open all year long and provide rolling admissions with a one academic year minimum commitment (four terms). Though many families choose to enroll for longer. Their location in southeast New Hampshire puts us near to both the mountains and the seacoast. Our children may enjoy a peaceful and more "normalized" environment in this picturesque location while they grow important strengths. The center holds Joint Commission accreditation.
All Shortridge Academy students can receive health and wellness services at the Shortridge Academy Health Center. Staffed by qualified medical specialists, our healthcare center provides comprehensive treatment, medication management, health education, and first aid services. The Health Center is open seven days a week until 10 p.m., and staff members are on call for emergencies around-the-clock.
Therapy is a key component of behavioral healthcare at Shortridge. Therapy can take multiple forms, whether on an individual basis or in group settings. Each student at Shortridge is assigned a master’s level therapist who listens to the student’s concerns and collaborates with the student and his or her family in developing an individualized plan to address academic, mental, and behavioral health needs. Psychoeducation is provided to the student and family about the rationale for pharmaceutical usage, alternative treatment options, the profile of potential side effects, and techniques for assessing drug efficacy.
Shortridge encourages physical exercise, and there are five weekly health and fitness programs that may include dance, weightlifting, hiking outdoors, and more. The activities that are offered in any particular term are heavily influenced by student interest, as staff members collaborate with students to create novel and enjoyable methods to enjoy exercise. Additionally, there are opportunities available during downtime, like campus art projects, photographic field trips to capture the coastline, and excursions to nearby art galleries and museums. Clients and their families have access to the campus's natural paths, and students can volunteer in the local community.
