About NAWA Sober Retreats
Where the ocean becomes part of the recovery process, Nawa Recovery offers an exclusive 4-week residential retreat for just 4 guests on Awera Island, surrounded by the crystal-clear waters of Indonesia's Mentawai Islands. Designed for high-performing professionals navigating addiction, burnout, and trauma, the program presents a discreet alternative to conventional rehab through trauma-informed care and individualized support. The founding cohort stays at Favela Mentawai, an intimate beachfront property featuring handcrafted bungalows and ocean-view accommodations framed by white-sand shores and tropical mangroves.
Personalized Treatment in a Secluded Coastal Retreat
The program combines daily 1-on-1 sessions, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) practice, and 4 weekly group education sessions to address addiction and the patterns underlying emotional and behavioral challenges. Experienced recovery peers guide the daily work, complemented by online therapy and clinical support from independently licensed practitioners. Treatment progresses from nervous system stabilization and gentle routines in the first week to deeper exploration of addiction triggers and personal patterns in the second. The third week focuses on trauma, identity, and family dynamics, before the final week turns toward integrating these insights into practical coping strategies.
Ocean Adventures and Restorative Island Living
At Favela Mentawai, Nawa Recovery pairs beachfront comfort with immersive ocean experiences that encourage physical and emotional well-being. Guests enjoy private rooms, catered meals tailored to dietary needs, and access to a gym and ice bath. Guided surfing, paddleboarding, and snorkeling invite exploration of the surrounding turquoise waters, while morning meditation and breathwork complement the clinical work. Afternoons are reserved for relaxation or nature walks, with an optional 3-day cultural immersion offering a rare opportunity to experience life within a local Mentawai community.
Continued Support Beyond the Island
As the retreat draws to a close, guests develop individualized relapse-prevention plans and prepare for the demands of returning home. The program includes 60 days of biweekly individual or group follow-up calls, continued connection through an alumni community, and referrals to local recovery resources. This ongoing support helps reinforce the skills developed during the retreat as guests resume their professional responsibilities and personal lives.
