About Spirit of Gheel
Spirit of Gheel is a nonprofit residential mental health community in Spring City, Pennsylvania. Adults with serious mental health conditions live together in a calm, home-like setting surrounded by farmland, wooded trails, and streams. Residents have private rooms and share daily life in a supportive environment designed to help them build stability, connection, and confidence.
Conditions They Treat
Spirit of Gheel supports adults 21+ living with conditions like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, major depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The program is designed for people who need long-term support and structure to manage their mental health and rebuild daily routines.
Therapy, Life Skills, and Experiential Activities
Treatment combines psychiatric care with everyday life skills. Residents can participate in individual and group therapy, medication management, and support with daily living skills like budgeting and transportation. Experiential activities are also an important part of the program and may include yoga, art, music, nature walks, and other wellness activities that encourage creativity, movement, and connection.
A Community-Focused Approach to Recovery
What makes Spirit of Gheel unique is its focus on community and personal growth. Residents—called “friends”—are encouraged to build relationships, explore their strengths, and take part in meaningful daily activities. With time, structure, and support, many residents gain the skills and confidence needed to move toward greater independence.
Private Pay Program with Possible Assistance
Spirit of Gheel is a private-pay program and does not accept insurance. The cost is about $12,000 per month, plus a $12,000 refundable security deposit and a one-time $1,250 admission fee. In some cases, residents may receive financial support through county or public mental health systems depending on their referral.
