About Gya’ Wa’ Tlaab Healing Centre
Accepting both Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients, this residential addiction treatment centre in Kitamaat Village on the Northwest Coast of British Columbia serves adult men in the early stages of recovery from substance use. Care is grounded in cultural practices and a Bio-Psycho-Social framework.
Early Recovery Program Structure
The program runs on a modular schedule, giving clients the option to complete a 6, 7, 8, or 12-week residential cycle or attend only the modules that apply to their needs. A naturopathic physician is part of the care team and addresses withdrawal, chronic pain, and lifestyle planning alongside counseling. Each week has a defined focus, starting with stabilization and orientation and building through self-assessment, family systems, addiction education, and recovery planning.
Supportive Services and Care
The center operates 13 beds and accepts clients in minor withdrawal and those on methadone or Suboxone. Alongside the residential program, they offer mental health and alcohol and drug counselling, elder support, life-skills development, employment readiness, gambling awareness education, diabetes and health awareness sessions, yoga, mindfulness, and cultural ceremonies and teachings.
