About Portage Atlantic Youth Rehabilitation
Portage Atlantic is a residential treatment program for adolescents and young adults with substance use disorders. The program adopts a therapeutic community approach, where clients are immersed in an environment alongside others with similar life experiences, all working together toward the shared goal of overcoming addiction. The goal for each client is to equip them with the skills needed to overcome drug addiction, while also enhancing their interpersonal skills, strengthening family relationships, and preparing them for successful social reintegration.
Portage Atlantic emphasizes the importance of education, providing a mandatory school program for youth that is led by certified teachers and tailored to your needs and academic goals. In addition to school, family support groups are provided to make the transition out of the program seamless. Portage understands the importance of recreational activities for youth, especially since many had to set them aside upon entering the program. To enrich their experience, Portage offers a wide range of activities and adventures, including team sports, music and arts, cooking workshops, yoga, book clubs, as well as outings to museums, orchards, and community events. They offer a robust aftercare program for up to 18 months after discharge that includes group follow-up meetings, individualized support, and meetings with a social reintegration counselor, ensuring that clients are well supported even after leaving.
Portage Atlantic is able to provide services free of charge for New Brunswick residents, on behalf of government funding and private donations. Residents are also provided with three nutritious meals each day. The facility is located on Cassidy Lake, providing clients with a serene environment for healing while also facilitating activities like swimming, kayaking, and fishing. There are multiple recreation rooms on the campus, as well as a fitness center, a gymnasium, classrooms, and accessible walking trails.
