About Ponca Tribe of Nebraska Omaha Office
Built to address alcohol and drug addiction alongside mental health concerns within American Indian communities, Ponca Tribe of Nebraska provides outpatient behavioral health services through the Fred LeRoy Health and Wellness Center in Omaha. The program offers substance use evaluations, dual diagnosis treatment, psychological testing, diagnostic interviews, and individual, group, and family counseling for adolescents through adults. Referrals also come from tribal courts, Nebraska health agencies, and domestic violence services.
Treatment Built Around Cultural Identity
The program combines 12-Step participation through Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and Al-Anon with culturally focused recovery plans based on each client’s needs and requests. Treatment planning may include participation in cultural activities such as the Ponca Pow Wow alongside family activities that encourage drug-free living. Clients may also receive random drug testing, outpatient chemical dependency education, and referrals to residential treatment programs or halfway houses.
Youth Programming and Talking Circles
The InterTribal Youth Program serves children, adolescents, and young adults ages 5 to 24 through weekly youth groups, talking circles, mentorship activities, and rotating educational groups. Participants attend language classes, beading sessions, pow wow dancing classes, family fun nights, and an annual youth lock-in. Youth staff coordinate with behavioral health providers to provide therapy referrals when additional counseling services are needed.
