About Axis Health System - Regional Crisis Center Montrose
Built around 24/7 walk-in access and short-term care outside a hospital, Axis Health System's Regional Crisis Center in Montrose serves people with urgent mental health or substance use needs across six counties on Colorado's Western Slope. The center has a dedicated crisis stabilization unit and 5 observation beds, allowing staff to provide different levels of support in one location. Following an assessment, clients may return home with support, receive closer monitoring, or be referred for more intensive treatment.
Stabilize Without a Hospital Stay
The crisis stabilization unit offers short-term, around-the-clock care for people 12 and older who need continued supervision without hospitalization. Staff provide crisis assessments, individual and group therapy, peer support, psychiatry, and medication management. The team has experience with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions and can help people withdraw safely from alcohol or other substances.
Connect to Ongoing Care
Before discharge, staff help clients prepare for their return home or transition to further care. Clients can be referred into Axis therapy, psychiatry, and substance use programs across the region, including intensive outpatient care in Montrose, or connected with community providers closer to home. Other clients receive safety planning and referrals to outpatient therapy, psychiatry, or substance use services through Axis or community providers.
