About Alaska Behavioral Health Arctic Building – IOP
In midtown Anchorage, Alaska Behavioral Health's Arctic Building offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for children and teens ages 9 to 17. Part of Alaska Behavioral Health, a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, the program supports young people stepping down from a higher level of care, such as partial hospitalization, or those who need more than weekly outpatient therapy, helping them build the skills to function well at home, school, and in the community.
Build Skills Through Structured Support
The IOP focuses on daily functioning through skill development, psychotherapy, and social time, following a predictable schedule. Groups meet 3 to 5 days per week from 4:00 to 7:00 pm after school, with the number of days based on each client's needs, and snacks or meals are provided. Participants must be safe, stable, and willing to engage in treatment, and they can add individual therapy through Alaska Behavioral Health or another provider.
Access Specialized Eating Disorder Care
Within the IOP, the program offers specialized eating disorder treatment using Integrative Modalities Therapy (IMT). This includes family-based therapy, weekly evaluations, supported mealtimes, and individual and group therapy grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy, with body acceptance and exposure work incorporated as clinically appropriate.
