CARF stands for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. It's an independent, non-profit organization that provides accreditation services for a variety of healthcare services. To be accredited means that the program meets their standards for quality, effectiveness, and person-centered care.
We are in-network with most insurance providers, so you can use insurance at a predetermined rate negotiated on your behalf. About New Directions for Women
New Directions for Women is a safe place for women to reclaim their lives, rebuild their families, and rediscover their strength. They treat women at every stage of life, including pregnant women and mothers with young children through a full spectrum of care that includes detox at any trimester, residential care, and aftercare planning. Women are welcome to bring their children, from newborns to age 12. Here, women are not seen as their struggle, but as resilient individuals with the capacity for deep, lasting change.
Healing begins with the belief that every woman deserves the chance to reclaim her story. That’s why New Directions for Women incorporates narrative therapy into their deeply compassionate, trauma-informed approach—empowering women to explore, understand, and rewrite the painful narratives that addiction and trauma have written into their lives. Rather than being defined by past experiences, women learn to reframe those stories with strength and self-worth at the forefront.
At New Directions for Women, a peaceful and supportive environment plays a vital role in recovery. This California treatment center feels like home. In the heart of Costa Mesa, just minutes from the California coastline, the facility is a beautifully-maintained home with private and shared bedrooms. With housekeeping services and designated parking, every detail is thoughtfully designed to let clients fully focus on their recovery.
The transition from treatment to everyday life can be one of the most vulnerable times in recovery. Their aftercare program is designed to walk alongside each woman after she leaves residential treatment. With continued access to therapy, relapse prevention planning, and a vibrant alumni group, women stay connected and empowered in their recovery.

One of the biggest barriers to treatment for mothers is the fear of being separated from their children. That’s why New Directions for Women offers on-site childcare for women with children—so they can focus on healing while knowing their little ones are safe and cared for. School-aged children attend school during the day, while younger children are looked after while mothers attend therapy and treatment sessions.
New Directions for Women understands the urgency, fear, and hope that comes with seeking detox while pregnant. As one of the few treatment centers equipped to safely detox pregnant women, they offer medically-supervised care in an all-female environment. The team works closely with each woman to make sure both her and the baby’s health are protected every step of the way.
Trauma isn’t just something someone “gets over”---it shapes how you think, feel, and connect. Because of this, trauma-informed care is weaved into every aspect of treatment. From the moment women walk through the doors, they’re met with understanding, not judgment. Through eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and trauma-focused dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT), women receive the tools to process pain. And yoga and meditation help them reconnect with their body and sense of self.
Women’s experiences—especially in relationships, family roles, and past trauma—deeply influence their journey to recovery. New Directions for Women’s gender-specific treatment meets the unique emotional, psychological, and relational needs of women. In a safe environment, women learn how to manage stress, rebuild self-worth, and learn how to be assertive without conflict.

New Directions saved my life! Their program truly embodies a mind/body/soul approach to healing and recovery. My stay was comfortable, the facilities, group room and bedrooms were extremely clean, and it became a safe haven to begin healing…The entire staff genuinely care about your well-being. Most are in recovery themselves and have experienced addiction first-hand. If you are looking to heal, make a change and start living the life you were meant to live, I highly recommend New Directions for Women.
