About Momentum
Momentum is a young adult therapy & gap program in Western North Carolina designed for young adults aged 18-25. They focus on treating mental health and wellness through a blend of therapeutic and adventure-based activities. Momentum addresses various mental health issues including social anxiety, depression, and technological dependence, aiming to help young adults transition to independence, build confidence, and find direction in life.
Momentum uses a relational-based, trauma-informed approach grounded in attachment theory. The program includes twice-weekly individual therapy sessions focusing on personal goals and emotional regulation, twice-weekly group therapy sessions promoting social skills and community support, and adventure-based therapy with outdoor activities that encourage personal growth and resilience. Additionally, life skills training is provided, teaching practical skills for independent living, emotional regulation, and communication. Academic support is integrated with accredited academics and adventure activities, including up to three elective credits in Social-Emotional Learning.
A typical day at Momentum involves a structured schedule balancing therapy, academic classes, and adventure activities. Mornings might start with mindfulness exercises or individual therapy sessions, followed by academic classes and group therapy. Afternoons include adventure activities such as hiking or team-building exercises, and evenings are spent on personal reflection, social activities, or additional therapy sessions.
