Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca Behavioral Health Unit-Inpatient

Two inpatient units provide round-the-clock psychiatric care in a safe and welcoming environment. One unit serves adolescents between the ages of thirteen and seventeen, and the other supports adults 18 and older. Both address conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, psychosis, and behavioral disorders. Admission is available when community care is not enough, ensuring structured support in times of crisis.

Personalized Treatment Plans Built on Comprehensive Evaluations

The program begins with a full evaluation to uncover medical, biochemical, or psychiatric causes of distress. Treatment plans may include psychiatric assessment, medication management, individual counseling, group therapy, recreation therapy, family therapy, nutrition counseling and psychoeducation. Clients also receive education on coping skills and after-care planning, giving them practical tools to manage symptoms and return home with greater stability and confidence.

Building Strength Through Community and Daily Routines

During treatment, patients live in a supportive, recovery-focused environment that mirrors normal daily life: wearing street clothes, eating meals together, and taking part in structured activities. Family involvement is strongly encouraged, helping loved ones learn new ways to cope and support recovery. Before discharge, staff coordinate with local agencies and community providers to ensure ongoing outpatient care and a smooth transition home.
