First Light Wilderness Therapy is a wilderness-based program treating adolescents ages 12-18 with mental health and behavioral disorders. Using evidence-based therapies, their trauma-informed staff help treat anxiety, depression, family strain, low academic engagement, and internet and gaming issues. Students live in the wilderness for the duration of their time in the program, with all the necessary camping gear and individual tents provided. Over the course of their treatment, students participate in camping, backpacking, a ropes course, rock wall climbing, boating, and fishing.

Family Involvement

First Light Wilderness Therapy recognizes the importance of family involvement in an adolescent’s healing process. To strengthen the family bond and help create healthier family systems, First Light incorporates a family program into their treatment approach. Families who participate in the program can expect to gain an understanding of therapeutic processes, how to evaluate family patterns, learn new skills, and get connected to helpful resources. In addition, family members will receive weekly communication from their student and their primary therapist, an in-person family visit, and access to a private parent support group.
