Ellenhorn New York
About Ellenhorn New York
Built around a “hospital without walls” approach, Ellenhorn New York brings intensive psychiatric care into clients’ homes and communities. Based on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, the center serves adults 18 and older with concerns including psychosis, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and also addresses co-occurring substance use. Psychiatrists remain on call 24/7, while clinicians support clients with work, school, and relationships.
Receive Coordinated Care at Home
Admissions begins with a conversation, and an in-depth client interview and review of treatment records, and contact with recent providers. During the first month, the team assesses needs and builds a Roadmap to Recovery with the client. Most treatment takes place one-on-one in homes and communities. Psychiatrists manage medication, while therapists use open dialogue for family and team discussions, mentalization-based treatment to explore relationships, and interpersonal and social rhythms therapy to establish regular sleep and daily routines. Substance use clinicians use motivational interviewing to help clients explore changes at their own pace. The team coordinates these services around each client’s goals, with visits ranging from several times a week to multiple times a day, depending on their support needs.
Connect Housing with Psychiatric Care
The center connects clients who need staffed housing with partner living programs in New York City. Housing staff and Ellenhorn’s clinical team coordinate care through shared plans and clear communication. For clients living independently, the team helps find a home, work with landlords, purchase furniture, and set up their space. Clinicians also work alongside clients on cooking, cleaning, and organization, making daily living skills part of recovery.
