About Brush Creek Academy
Brush Creek Academy is a private Christian program on a 900-acre ranch in Disney, Oklahoma for boys 14-17 with various mental health, substance use, and behavioral conditions. Their 12-15 month program includes their onsite boarding school, life skills mentoring, animal therapy, and opportunities to contribute to others with local volunteer opportunities and mission trips. Their program includes 5 levels that include self-discovery, finding identity in Christ, responding well to struggles and triggers, and caring for others. Students receive a life coach for 1-on-1 mentoring. The campus has a fitness center, a pool, archery, hunting, volleyball, basketball, and general exercise space. Outside of the campus, they take students to swimming, boating, camping, fishing, ropes courses, museums, power plants, parks, and other points of interest.
Brush Creek opens admission on Mondays starting at 9:45 a.m. They can also do admissions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays by appointment.
Brush Creek's mission statement is “bringing Hope to youth, adults, and families by providing Christ-centered recovery programs.” Their program seeks to support teen boys academically, relationally, and spiritually with various issues.
Some mental health disorders that Brush Creek Academy treats include anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and anger. Beyond traditional mental health issues, they address family and interpersonal issues like abuse, attachment disorders, defiance, adoption issues, and irresponsibility.
Brush Creek Academy also treats substance use addictions like alcohol and heroin, as well as sex and pornography addictions.
Participants work on the ranch to practice taking on responsibilities. Oasis Animal Adventures partners with Brush Creek Academy to provide animals like miniature horses, regular-sized horses, cows, camels, zebras, lemurs, and kangaroos. Participants can learn to ride and care for the horses.
Brush Creek Academy's boarding school, The Cross Christian Academy, carries accreditation by Cognia and the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Students can transfer credits between The Cross Christian Academy and other private or public schools.
The Cross Christian Academy offers sports, including basketball and football. They tout their wins in state championships.
After a participant completes the first 4 weeks in the program, Brush Creek Academy allows participants to make 2 10-minute calls and a 20-minute call each month at assigned times. They can exchange mail, and staff monitor the mail.
In later levels of the program, participants receive a monthly pass to visit their family.
Legal guardians can call or message Brush Creek Academy to speak with the students' mentors.
Students sign a contract for 3 months of aftercare follow-ups. They follow a set of rules and expectations in their guardians' care. After completing the 3 months, they receive a certificate for their graduation from Brush Creek Academy.
Brush Creek Academy is part of Adult & Teen Challenge of Oklahoma, which is endorsed by former presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, former attorney general John Ashcroft, and evangelical psychologist James Dobson.
