Dr. Lisa A. Stanton holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Minnesota, with expertise in behavior change theory and its applications to chronic disease prevention and control. After earning her PhD, she completed a National Cancer Institute T32 postdoctoral fellowship in Behavioral Cancer Prevention and Control at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. She has since worked as a researcher at two health tech startups focused on behavioral coaching for the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes and hypertension.

Today, her work has expanded beyond the academic to the deeply personal. Lisa shares essays and videos with thousands of followers on Instagram (@drlisastanton) and in the pages of her Substack and book. Her writing draws from lived experience in recovery from addiction, eating disorders, anxiety, ADHD, IBS, alopecia areata, and more.

Once convinced that more knowledge would fix everything, Lisa now shares how it was a relationship with God that began to heal her from the inside out. She writes from the heart, with humor, candor, and hope, about the shift from relying on her intellect to learning how to trust her faith.

Our Promise

How Is Recovery.com Different?

We believe everyone deserves access to accurate, unbiased information about mental health and recovery. That's why we have a comprehensive set of treatment providers and don't charge for inclusion. Any center that meets our criteria can list for free. We do not and have never accepted fees for referring someone to a particular center. Providers who advertise with us must be verified by our Research Team and we clearly mark their status as advertisers.

Our goal is to help you choose the best path for your recovery. That begins with information you can trust.
