About TLC Rehab
TLC Rehab’s dynamic team is dedicated to delivering safe, transformative treatment. Using a range of psychotherapeutic interventions, they provide clients with the skills, tools and confidence they need to remain drug and alcohol free. Detox programmes start at 7 days, with a full rehab programme being 3 months. They recommend, where possible, that clients stay 28 days, to get the maximum benefits of their residential treatment. From their suburban centre in North London, their goal is to inspire people to believe in themselves and motivate them to go out and make a difference in both their lives and the lives of others.
TLC Rehab uses a non-12-Step model of recovery called the ABC’s model as their main form of treatment. The model walks through 3 main steps: abstain, believe, and change, with a 4th step, sustain, as the key to lasting recovery. During the abstain phase, clients detox from drug and alcohol use, preparing them for the next steps. As clients enter the believe phase, they begin to gain an attitude that they can achieve recovery. The change phase helps clients identify what may have contributed to their substance use and how reframing those experiences could set them up for long term wellness. The sustain phase takes place during aftercare, both in person and online. To accomplish the ABC model, TLC Rehab offers a range of psychotherapeutic interventions: two 1:1 counselling sessions per week, group therapy, and several evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), as well as eye movement desensitization and reconditioning (EMDR).
TLC Rehab uses schema therapy at the core of its programme to address and replace negative coping behaviours with healthy strategies for satisfying unmet needs, focussing specifically on looking inward to uncover how trauma, emotional pain, and unmet needs contribute to addiction. This therapeutic approach targets specific ‘schemas’ common in addiction, such as mistrust, emotional inhibition, social isolation, and escapism. Their family support programme helps build a strong therapeutic alliance with families. They also utilise creative approaches such as art therapy and music therapy alongside holistic activities such as nutrition and yoga. TLC additionally offers introductory courses to the 12-Step programme, as they consider it a positive programme and seek to provide education about this method.
As part of sustaining recovery, TLC Rehab is committed to aftercare, including daily support calls with graduates of their programme for 28 days following completion of treatment, as well as access to a free weekly aftercare group. Online or face-to-face 1:1 counselling can also be provided. Their aim when discharge planning is to equip clients with all of the necessary tools to maintain recovery, by providing information and advice relating to the myriad offerings available both in the community and online. Their team is on call 24/7 for support, so clients know that if they are having a bad day, they can always pick up the phone and speak to someone they know and trust.
Located in Finchley in the Borough of Barnet, TLC Rehab is easily accessible by rail and road, to residents in and around the City of London. The 10-bed facility has 6 single occupancy and 2 double occupancy rooms, all with en-suite bathroom facilities. Their centre is immaculately clean and decorated to a high standard by an interior designer. An on-site chef prepares nutritious meals, complemented by healthy snacks. Their period property is both luxurious and homey, boasting a beautiful garden, which provides a tranquil place for clients to relax and unwind in nature, as well as a space for outdoor yoga and exercise classes. The whole group goes for a daily ‘wellbeing walk’. Streaming services include Amazon Prime, Netflix, and BBC iPlayer.

TLC Rehab’s medically managed detox is designed for those with alcohol or opiate dependency, following strict NICE guidelines to ensure client safety and comfort. Trained staff monitor the client closely using recognized withdrawal assessments and vital signs monitoring. Within 48-72 hours, most clients stabilise and start feeling better. Detox typically lasts from 7-10 days for alcohol, and 14-21 days for opiates, depending on the level of dependency. While in detox, the client only needs to attend the individual and group sessions they feel physically able to.
TLC Rehab offers shorter rehab programmes starting from 28 days. The therapy and support clients receive will be no different than in the 12-week programme, but the staff will tailor the treatment, so that clients can focus on specific areas that need to be addressed in the shorter timeframe. Even the shorter programme provides clients a solid foundation for long term recovery.
Alongside formal therapeutic treatments, TLC Rehab also incorporates leisure activities into the programme, such as weekly yoga sessions, weekly nutrition sessions, and weekly gym/swimming sessions. Rehab can be a tough, emotionally draining experience, so it is important to counter-balance this with fun activities. Many people who have a problem with drugs and especially alcohol, fear that they will not be able to ‘have fun’ and enjoy life without alcohol. By engaging in such activities, TLC aims to demonstrate to clients that life can be rewarding and pleasurable without being under the influence of a substance.
While receiving treatment at TLC Rehab, clients can expect, at the very least: To be treated with kindness, compassion, dignity and respect. To receive care, treatment and support that will meet their needs, delivered by a team of experienced, skilled and knowledgeable staff. To be heard, and to be supported to express thoughts, feelings and views. To have personal information kept 100% secure. To see a significant improvement in physical and emotional wellbeing. To leave the service with an action plan for personal recovery that builds confidence for maintaining long-term sobriety.

Thanks to all involved at The Cedars. It has been a vastly different experience from the other facilities we have dealt with in the past. At no point did it feel like a business transaction. The focus was always on the patient and their recovery. It was also the first time a facility made us feel that everything was and will be ok. The staff were all very professional and still managed the soft touch. We will gladly refer anyone needing treatment and help with their recovery.
