About Capital Area Counseling
Serving clients age 6 and older, Capital Area Counseling (CAC) provides therapy for anxiety, depression, grief and loss, stress, trauma, and relationship concerns. The Austin nonprofit offers individual, couples, family, group, and child therapy in English and Spanish. CAC serves Austin and other Central Texas communities, including San Marcos, Round Rock, Georgetown, and Cedar Park.
Supervised Counseling Approach
They use a supervised training model, with student counselor volunteers conducting sessions under the guidance of licensed professionals. Therapists tailor their approach to each client and use evidence-informed practices. Individual counseling centers on 1-on-1 sessions, couples therapy addresses communication and relationship concerns, and family therapy helps clients work through conflict, boundaries, and shared goals. CAC also offers group therapy, while child sessions may include conversation, play-based techniques, and creative expression.
Getting Started With Counseling
Clients create a secure portal and complete required consent forms before the intake team matches them with a therapist or service. CAC reports a 2-week to 3-month waitlist. Sessions usually last 50 minutes and take place weekly, with fees ranging from $15 to $60 based on income and household size. Counselors offer appointments from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with both in-person and statewide Texas telehealth available.
